Coach Troy is in his twelfth year as Varsity Coach here at Ridgewood, and he has more than fourteen
years of coaching experience at both the high school and collegiate levels, including three years as
assistant coach at Dominican College of New York (Div. II). Under his leadership, Ridgewood has
qualified for tournament play in each of the past six seasons, and during that time 13 players have
gone on to play basketball at the collegiate level.

Mike Troy and his wife Jen live with their daughters Kaitlyn and Julia in Pearl River, New York. Mike
has a bachelor’s degree in history from Boston College, a master’s degree in educational leadership
from the College of St. Elizabeth and has been a social studies teacher at Ridgewood High School for
the past fifteen years.

Coach believes wearing the Ridgewood High School basketball uniform brings a responsibility to work
hard and to represent one’s self, team, family, school and community every day. He feels it is truly a
privilege and an honor to be part of the Ridgewood Boys Basketball program, and he is proud to have
players on his team who embody the traits he believes in -- character, pride and family.

Assistant Coach Jim Ponchak
This is Coach Ponchak's fourth year back with the Maroons as Varsity Assistant Coach, after being
the head coach at Fair Lawn High School and Ramapo High School during the prior three years.  He
previously served as a JV coach and assistant to Coach Troy from 2007 to 2009.  Prior to that, Jim
was an assistant coach at Pascack Valley where he helped guide the team to a State Sectional
Championship and Group 1/Group 2 team of the year honors.

Coach Ponchak grew up in Wyckoff and attended Ramapo High School, where he was a member of
two State Sectional Championship teams.  He attended the University of South Carolina in Columbia,
and earned degrees in management and marketing, graduating Magna Cum Laude in 1999.  After
working in corporate retail for four years, Ponchak realized that his true calling was teaching and
coaching.  He went back to school at Saint Peter's College in Jersey City, where he earned his
teaching certification in 2004.

Coach Ponchak teaches seventh grade pre-algebra at George Washington Middle School.  He
resides in North Haledon with his wife, Tania, and their chihuahua, Rockstar.
